Winter Weather

Like it or not, winter weather is here!

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to the question of how cold is too cold for my dog. Many factors are relevant to a dog’s comfort level with win-ter weather, including type of fur, size, age, and overall health. Signs that your dog is too cold include hiding, whining, shivering, and picking up their paws. In general, if you are cold, your dog is probably cold too!
Snow-melt salt can be a problem for any dog. Try to avoid areas where there is a lot of salt on the ground and wipe off your pets feet when they come inside after a walk. Do not let your dog eat any type of snow-melt salt. Most brands are toxic and even the brands that are labled ‘pet safe’ can cause GI upset.

Saying Good Bye is Never Easy

Dr. Tiffany Bohlmann has accepted a position at Prairie Animal Hospital in Peoria. Her last day at SmartVet will be February 12th. We are sad to see her go and wish her all the best! She is happy to be taking a job much closer to her home. She will not miss the long commute. She will miss all the clients and patients she has been seeing for the last two years.
